If you live in Alcoa, you already know the calendar tightens in August. What isn't obvious until you lay the dates side by side is how much of the season now happens inside a single half-mile. Between the first Saturday of the month and the second weekend after Labor Day, four separate events run out of Springbrook Park or its pool. None of them require a car once you're there, and only one costs money.
That clustering is doing something to the way this neighborhood works. Alcoa has spent the last few years absorbing new residents, new restaurants, and a new commercial spine off North Hall Road, and yet the social gravity keeps pulling back to the same park it always did. The late-summer stretch is the clearest evidence of that pull, so it's worth understanding as a system rather than a list.
Four Saturdays, one park
Here is the shape of the run, in the order it will actually happen this year:

The Springbrook Splash starts and finishes at the pool at 636 Vose Road and sends runners out on a rolling course toward the Maryville-Alcoa Greenway, which is why you'll see the greenway parking pinched by 6:30 that morning. Bib pickup runs from 6:00 to 7:20 AM at the race site, so there is no midweek packet pickup taking you across town.
A week later the same pool becomes a dog park. Paws in the Pool is in its fifth year at Springbrook Pool, and the swim windows are staggered by size, with large dog check-in at 8:30 AM and small dog check-in at 10:45 AM. Pre-registration by noon the Friday before drops the cost from eight dollars to five per dog, which is the sort of detail worth knowing if you have more than one to bring.
The Thursday concerts fill in the evenings. Songs by the Brook returns August 13 and 27 and September 10 in 2026, with Americana, folk, and blues performers and the park's trails, playgrounds, tennis courts, and recreation center as the setting. Admission is free and food vendors sell on site, which is the small piece that keeps people from breaking off at 7:30 to look for dinner.
Why the pool is doing double duty
Springbrook Pool has always been a summer amenity. What has changed is how often it functions as a venue. Between the 5K and the dog festival, the pool hosts back-to-back major event weekends before it settles back into normal open swim. If you use the pool regularly for laps or family time, that is a two-Saturday interruption worth planning around. If you don't, it is a two-Saturday reason to walk over.
The venue math also explains parking behavior most residents notice without articulating. The Splash routes overflow into the Springbrook Recreation Center lot, Alcoa Little League Park, Alcoa First United Methodist Church, and Alcoa Elementary School lots. On Splash morning the cars are on the street by 6:15. On Paws in the Pool morning they show up in two waves, roughly 8:15 and 10:30, tracking the check-in windows. Knowing which lot fills when is the sort of thing you only pick up by living here.
The half-mile keeps pulling closer
The reason all of this matters beyond August is that Alcoa has been building outward while its social center held. City Manager Bruce Applegate has estimated 2,500 to 4,000 new residents in the last few years, and much of the new commercial footprint has landed off North Hall Road at the Springbrook Farm development, which is now visibly wrapping its first phase.
"We've got The Chop House coming in the next four to six months, that's going to be a huge one for us. I think that's roughly 8,000 square feet, so it's pretty big."
That is Applegate in a June 2025 interview with WATE, describing an 8,000-square-foot Chop House arriving as part of the same Springbrook Farm buildout. The Alcoa location is scheduled to open in spring 2026, with hiring beginning in early 2026. That places a full-scale steakhouse within a short drive of the park by the time this concert series ends, and within the same everyday orbit as the pool and greenway.
Phase two is where the ripple keeps going. The next phase adds more retail and commercial space along with roughly 129 to 155 new housing units proposed for Mills Street, plus a second Holiday Inn Express planned off Marconi Boulevard. All of it sits close enough to Springbrook Park that the park keeps getting more residents inside its walking radius, not fewer.
What changed on the food side this year
The daytime edges of the calendar are also easier to fill than they were last August. In the past twelve months Alcoa has added:
- DosBros Fresh Mexican Grill, which held its grand opening and ribbon cutting on January 19, 2026 at 1143 Franck Street, Suite 103
- Jim 'N Nick's Bar-B-Q, which held its grand opening the same week
- Super Chix, cited by the city among the recent fast-casual additions along with DosBros
- The Chop House, arriving spring 2026 with wood-themed décor, hand-cut steaks and in-house seafood, daily lunch service from 11:00 AM, and happy hours
That mix matters for how you build a Saturday. A pre-race carb dinner has more options than it did a year ago. So does a post-concert late bite. The old rhythm of driving to Maryville for anything after 9 PM is loosening.
A workable August Saturday, mapped
If you want the compressed version of the argument, try running one weekend like this:
- Park at the Springbrook Recreation Center lot by 6:15 AM for the Splash. The approach is East Hunt Road to Springbrook Road, then Faraday Street to the pool.
- Finish, take the post-race pool access included with entry, and be back at the car by 9:30.
- Save the following Saturday for Paws in the Pool. Pre-register the dog by Friday noon and use the small-dog window at 11:15 if yours is under 40 pounds.
- Slot the Thursday concert on August 13 as the evening anchor. Bring a chair. Eat from the on-site vendors and skip the drive.
- Repeat the concert on August 27, then again September 10 to close the series.
Five appearances at the same park in six weeks is not a coincidence. It is a neighborhood telling you where its center of gravity actually is.
What this means if you already live here
The practical read is that Alcoa's late-summer social life is more concentrated than the town's growth suggests it should be. New restaurants are opening two miles east, new housing is coming in off Mills Street, and the Springbrook Farm buildout keeps drawing headlines, but the events that fill the calendar still route back to Vose Road and Dalton Street. That is useful information whether you moved here last year or twenty years ago. It tells you where to walk, where to park, and where the next wave of neighbors will end up on a Thursday evening in August.
